    Only the extracted audio is sent for speech-to-text. Every word comes back with start and end times, including uh, um, and er.

    Fillers and pauses longer than your silence slider become cut ranges. Click a word in the transcript to keep it.

    Preview, then save

    Preview plays the original file and skips removed ranges — no re-encode yet. Save encodes a clean MP4 or M4A on your computer.

What is Remove Filler Words?

Remove Filler Words is a free in-browser tool that cuts filler words (um, uh, you know) and long silences from a video or audio file. You drop a file, review the cuts, preview the result, and optionally download a clean MP4 or M4A. No account is required.

Does my video leave my computer?

No. The video file is processed in your browser and never uploaded. Only extracted audio is sent to a transcription proxy so the tool can get word timings. Download and preview both happen on your machine.

How do I remove ums and uhs from a video for free?

Yes. There is no paid plan, no waitlist, and no sign-up. You can use it in the browser without creating an account or providing an API key.

What file types can I use?

MP4, MOV, WebM, and MP3. Video and audio both work. Comfortable ceiling is about 100 MB or 10 minutes; larger files may run out of browser memory.

Can I keep some filler words?

Yes. After processing, click any word in the transcript to keep it instead of cutting it. You can also adjust the silence threshold so shorter pauses stay in.

How does transcription work, and what are the limits?

Audio is posted to a hosted speech-to-text proxy with filler-word timestamps enabled. The first Process also downloads the FFmpeg.wasm core (~25 MB). Encoding a download uses your CPU and can take a while. Chromium-based browsers work best.

Does this work as a silence remover?

Yes. Any pause longer than the silence slider is cut along with filler words. If you mainly want dead air gone, drop a file here or on the silence remover page and tune the threshold so short breaths stay in.

Can I remove filler words from audio or a podcast?

Yes. MP3 files work the same as video. Only the audio is transcribed. After preview, Save encodes an M4A on your computer. There is a dedicated walkthrough for removing filler words from audio.

What filler words does it cut?

Sounds such as um, uh, er, ah, and similar, plus phrases like you know, I mean, kind of, and sort of. Like and basically are cut when they are used as hedges, not as real words. Click any word in the transcript to keep it, or open a word to cut one the detector missed.
